Regis Gizavo – Efa Olo Be

Régis Gizavo (June 16, 1959 — July 16, 2017) was a Malagasy accordionist and singer. He was born in Tulear, Madagascar and began playing the accordion at a young age.
In 1990 he won the Radio France Internationale “Prix découvertes”. He began to work from Paris, touring internationally.

In addition to two solo albums, Régis Gizavo has been a member of the Corsican group I Muvrini, and contributed to a range of recordings, including albums by the Cape Verdean singers Cesária Évora and Lura. He performed with Brasilian singer Lenine, and worked with several French and African musicians.

Gizavo was known for his mastering of his two hands (on either side of the accordeon), which he could make work simultaneously independently.

A world citizen, who is to be remembered for his musicianship, kindness and joy bringing music.

Régis Gizavo died on stage only 58 years old. Let his music live on.
