Alfred Noyes CBE was an English poet, short-story writer and playwright, best known for his ballads, “The Highwayman” and “The Barrel-Organ”.

Born: 16 September 1880, Wolverhampton

Died: 25 June 1958, Isle of Wight

Mary Angela Mayne (1927–1958)

Noyes’ last poem, Ballade of the Breaking Shell, was written in May 1958, one month before his death.
He died at the age of 77.
